Conifer Fire Department delivers a full spectrum of emergency services to our mountain community, including emergency medical response, fire suppression, and technical rescue. With a combination of career staff and highly trained volunteers, our teams are equipped to handle everything from medical calls and structure fires to backcountry rescues—day or night, in every season.
Emergency medical services is a critical function of the Conifer Fire Protection District (CFPD). CFPD fire service personnel are the first responders to medical emergencies within the district boundaries.

CFPD provides emergency response with highly-trained career and volunteer members. Firefighter (FF) / EMT medical certification levels vary from EMT to Paramedic, enabling CFPD to provide a full range of care from basic to advanced life support (ALS and BLS care). All FF/Paramedics provide medical care in accordance with the Denver Metro Protocols. A typical initial response for emergency medical calls is, at a minimum, a transport Medic unit that can provide ALS or BLS care. If needed, neighboring fire districts provide backup patient transport via established automatic and mutual aid agreements.
Our commitment is that you receive great care from our EMT's and Paramedics, however, property taxes alone do not cover the cost of the CFPD ambulance transport service.
CFPD bills for reimbursement of ambulance service provided only if we transport you or a family member to a hospital. Our billing for ambulance patient transport charges is managed by an outside third party vendor.

The Conifer Fire Protection District provides an “all-hazards” emergency response to 300 square miles of Jefferson and Douglas Counties, Colorado. Services provided by CFPD include, but are not limited to; structural fire suppression, wildland firefighting, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS), technical rescue, hazardous materials response at the operational level, fire inspections, fire investigations, plan reviews, and fire prevention.

CFPD is a combination fire and EMS special district, served by both career and volunteer staff. Firefighters, EMTs and paramedics respond to 600 emergency calls each year.
Twelve volunteers and four career staff respond from five stations located strategically throughout the district. Our firefighters are trained and certified to meet State of Colorado Firefighter I and many are certified as State of Colorado Firefighter.
Certification requires over 300 hours of volunteers’ time with continuous training each week to maintain and improve proficiency, safety and service. Each of the CFPD fire stations is equipped with an engine and additional equipment throughout the district includes water tenders, ALS ambulances, rescue trucks and brush trucks for wildland fires. Due to terrain, limited access driveways and weather all of the CFPD apparatus is 4×4 capable.
Few areas of CFPD have fire hydrants so water must be carried into a fire by water tenders carrying 2000 gallons each. Our brush trucks carry 400 gallons of water and are “pump and roll” capable, allowing CFPD firefighters to attack a wildfire while moving.
The two CFPD rescue trucks support operations at structure and vehicle fires, motor vehicle collisions and extrications, hazardous materials and rescue calls. The rescue trucks carry rope rescue gear, extrication tools, an air system for breathing tank refill, and emergency medical supplies.

While emergency medical response and fire suppression are a main demand for services, each medically trained firefighter has a special skill to which they devote many hours of training. These skills include the following:

High and Low Angle Rope Rescue
Surface, Swift Water and Ice Rescue
Vehicle Extrication and Machinery Entrapments
Structural Collapse
Hazardous Materials (HazMat)
Back Country Rescues
The diverse response area in the district requires proficiency in all these rescue disciplines.
